How to Select High Temperature Castors

A buyer guide to temperature range, exposure time, load, wheel material, bearing lubrication and bakery or oven applications.

Specify Continuous and Peak Temperature

State the normal operating temperature, maximum peak, exposure duration and cooling period. A short pass near an oven is different from continuous operation inside a heated chamber. Also identify whether heat reaches the castor by hot air, radiant heat, floor contact or a heated load.

Review Every Heat-Sensitive Component

The wheel, hub, bearing, lubricant, bracket finish, brake parts and fasteners may have different limits. A general material name does not prove that the complete castor is suitable. Confirm the limit for the assembled product and the intended duty cycle.

Include Load and Movement

Rated load can change with temperature. Send equipment weight, castor quantity, travel frequency, speed, floor and whether the trolley is moved while hot. Consider uneven load distribution, impact at thresholds and the starting force required after a stationary heating cycle.

Match Wheel Material to the Process

Heat-resistant rubber, polyamide and phenolic or cast-iron constructions have different noise, floor, load and temperature behavior. A harder wheel may tolerate the process but transmit more vibration or damage a sensitive floor. Compare the exact series data rather than selecting from temperature alone.

Check Bearings and Lubrication

Bearing type, clearance and lubricant must remain suitable throughout heating and cooling. Ask how inspection and relubrication should be handled, especially where repeated thermal cycles can dry or degrade conventional lubricants.

Consider Cleaning and Food-Processing Requirements

Bakery, oven and food-equipment applications may add washdown, cleaning chemicals or material-document requirements. These should be agreed before selection, together with any restrictions on lubricants or wheel materials.

Run a Representative Trial

Test a sample through repeated loaded heating, travel and cooling cycles. Inspect wheel deformation, bearing movement, swivel action, brake function and mounting security before approving production use.

Use Series-Specific Data

Only use the operating limits published for the selected product group and confirmed in the quotation. Send temperature profile, load, speed, floor, target size, mounting and quantity for review.
